One such power tool is a "chop saw," which is a hand-held circular blade or saw with a fixed blade edge or cutting line which can be moved around the circumference of a workpiece. A saw blade is attached to a spindle which is rotatably driven in a chuck within a housing of the saw. The housing includes a handle and a trigger. In operation, the handle is held by the user, and the trigger is manipulated by the user to rotate the spindle and drive the saw blade around the workpiece.
Typically, chop saws have been provided with one or more teeth which are positioned on the cutting line of the saw blade. Such teeth make it easier to cut material into desired shapes.
The prior art has included chop saws with different number of teeth per cutting line. The type of tooth utilized is similarly varied. For example, U.S. Pat. No. 5,165,359 to Lunda teaches a saw blade with four teeth evenly spaced around the periphery of the cutting line.
Such prior art saw blades are rotated continuously about the length of a workpiece to cut through it. The cutting line should be able to move slightly through the workpiece to guide the saw. Should the cutting line be stopped, the blade is likely to bind with the workpiece. Any cutting line will be continuously against and cut into the workpiece.
It is desirable to provide a saw blade and a chuck for use with a tool such as a chop saw which has a cutting line which is positioned in a substantially continuous linear cutting path. It is further desirable to provide a cutting line which moves in a substantially linear arc through the workpiece so as to reduce binding.
The present invention is a cutting line control for a hand-held power tool which includes a shaft having a circular end portion and a handle mounted thereon. An annular flange is disposed at the base of the circular portion. The flange has an aperture aligned with the shaft. A unitary metallic hub fits over the shaft and the flange. The hub 0b46394aab
