Most fathers think masturbation is harmless and even a positive sign of sexual health (Alessandra et al. 2015). However, in 60 to 75 percent of cases, fathers do not feel safe with masturbation, and many of them think that it is best if adolescent boys do not masturbate (Katulanda-Ministry of Health 2015). Many fathers feel that girls should learn to keep their sex life private. This belief does not appear to be based on an empathic understanding of the impact of masturbation on the girls, or on the relationship they had with their own fathers. Many parents worry that masturbation may lead to sexual dysfunction. However, men and women are equally capable of sexual dysfunction, and masturbation is not a risk factor for premature sexual activity, functional impotence (e.g., premature ejaculation), or for becoming sexually addicted.
According to Soulières et al. (2004), 5 to 7 years with an increased BMI in childhood is a significant predictor of early puberty in young girls (4 to 8 years of age). A recent study of 81 girls and boys with early adrenarche (from 2 to 8 years of age) showed that the most reliable factor associated with early adrenarche was a BMI greater than the 90th percentile on multiple testing occasions. For at least 1 year of follow-up, growth during adolescence in boys with early adrenarche remains below average for age and was negatively associated with adrenarche (Roth et al. 2008). Both mother's and father's BMI can influence the child's BMI, but mother's BMI has, on average, a greater impact. Girls in early adolescence are more likely to gain weight than boys. Parents who are overweight or obese are more likely to have children who themselves become overweight and obese as children.
Findings from a time-series analysis published by Stice and colleagues show that boys who masturbate are, on average, physically younger, weigh more and have a lower BMI than those who do not. These effects are not present among boys who practice insertive sex with boys, a behaviour associated with the development of same-sex attraction. A similar pattern was observed among girls who masturbate (Cameron et al. 2009). d2c66b5586
