Finally I ran some tests in WinAmp and it worked fine. (The only thing you have to do is to make sure the winamp CD ripper catalog is set to use the same database as the media player of your choice. This is very easy in Winamp!). I think it's about time I tried and do some archive rippling.
I had to take the picker apart to fix the gripper mechanism all over again - screw shaped rods inserted into the guide disk runner holes and then with the arm activated the disk would jam these gripper points, the spring would then push the arm up and the discs would fly off. Very nice, lots of scope for going to the left or right at the perfect moment to catch a disc.
The problem was the mechanism was designed with the CD-ROM drive facing DOWN the axis rather than the standard 'floppy drive facing down the axis' way. This means the discs have a flat side facing the gripper mechanism rather than a round side. This round side would be the 45 degree side of their curved shape. Now I figured for the round to turn into the flat the disc has to be turned 90 degrees, so it was a matter of flipping everything over and finding a way to keep it steady (I think I have got that problem solved). Although this method works quite well, it is a bit fiddly.
I decided to reverse the grip mechanism so it would bring up the disc from under it. This is much easier to deal with in the end. Now the disks are held down from the top and as it scrunches the disc it is pushed under the machine holding it in place. The arms have a purpose now, each one with its own spring so that the discs are held firmly up from the bottom. 'Stretched' arms over the disks are pushed up and the discs will be lifted by them (not pulled up by them). d2c66b5586
